The Little Grey Bird was born at a desk in the financial city of London, after a chalk paint workshop at an Annie Sloan stockist. Boredom, stress and frustration at work caused an impromptu three-day holiday to Suffolk.
Over these three days it was decided that we could actually ‘up sticks, paint furniture’ and ‘live the dream’.
Two years later, a cottage with a workshop and with a Labrador now in tow, we are doing our best to keep our dream alive.
Hard work, furniture painting all hours, and grey hair, have become our lives! As well as living with the biggest spiders we have ever seen, constant dog walking, neighbour’s popping in for “drinks and nibbles at 6 dahling!”, the stress of finding yet another crack in our cottage and not getting much sleep (due to there being no police sirens at night). But we love where we live and are constantly amazed by how beautiful Suffolk is.
Our little shop opened in May 2016 at Helmingham Hall & Gardens and the response has been fantastic. Our customers range from day trippers, holidaymakers and locals who cant resist the Tea rooms and gorgeous gardens. We closed for the season in September and are working towards handpainting new furniture for the shop reopening in May 2017.
Anyway, we do hope you like our new website. We hope to be the number one website for supporting furniture painters using chalk paint and for selling the hand picked items to show off your work! We know what it is like to source the materials needed for our business. Our stock of items will grow in the future so keep watching, sign up to our newsletters, like our Facebook page and of course, come visit us in the shop when we open again at the beautiful Helmingham Hall and Gardens.
